I played Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, for Rose (and the little astronaut) over the weekend. I was trying to explain to myself why this music is so special, why it runs so deep in me. I have read before that Miles Davis was as concerned with the silence between notes as he was with the notes. Every note gets its place on this album, every space gets its place. The music between the tones is super rich. The London tube system has a little reminder sign above you when you cross from train to platform: Mind the Gap. That says it perfectly I think.
I love this photo. And how amazing and rich, that Miles Davis was as concerned with the silence between notes as he was with the notes. Thanks for sharing that piece about him.……
I sometimes find that the silence between the gap is where the answer is. The break in between, the song, or conversation, or the step we are about to take. Where we have that moment of clarity. For me when I listen, especially to music, I find that listening to just the instrument being played takes me to a place deep in my heart and soul. It touches me if I will only pause and listen. It’s that pause and listening that I’m working on. I loved hearing what Miles Davis is thinking and feeling when he composes his music. I also like knowing that each person will hear something different in that pause. You’ve giving me something to think about today. Thank you for sharing.
you are welcome. Thank you for the comments Barbara and Melinda…
