It turns out that the world really does look like this. Every­day when my friends in Maui turn off their neigh­bor­hood road they are con­fronted with this view. Stun­ning, espe­cially with the power lines and the houses and the per­fect light and the mil­lion fla­vors of green. So good.
I look at cat­a­logues like Michael Kors or Neiman Mar­cus and I scoff, but really, I don’t. I scoff for my par­ents or who­ever is try­ing to tell me that $1700 is too much for what­ever it is. I know that. But I know, I just know, that those design­ers are look­ing for five of these mil­lion shades of green, and for that I love them. I believe them that they are work­ing to cre­ate this moment in a dress or a shirt. They are plac­ing a very high value on the effort to extract and con­vey the impor­tance of our pay­ing atten­tion to the beauty that is right here. If I can’t see it com­ing off Okawa Drive in Maui then I can pay for it at the Prada bou­tique, but no mat­ter how I get it, it is worth soak­ing in. Soak in this, my best effort for beauty, for my promise to stay present with “Green”. That is what I hear when I see the ridicu­lous fash­ion cat­a­logues. Love it.
